Prospective New Members
To be eligible for membership in Everett Mountain Rescue Unit, you need to be a competent mountaineer, be able to make a significant time commitment, and you must be 18 years of age or older (Under 18 please see our Explorer SAR unit). The skills we want you to have are equivalent to those taught in a basic climbing course, which teaches you to safely follow on glaciated and low fifth class alpine terrain. Such courses are readily available from reputable organizations such as the Washington Alpine Club, the Boeing Alpine Club, and the Mountaineers.
The time commitment is not trivial. As a prospective member, you need to attend three of our monthly unit meetings. This will give you a chance to meet members and give us a chance to talk to you. Our meetings are held at 7 PM on the first Monday of the month at Taylor's Landing except when a holiday falls on the first Monday. If so, that months meeting will be held on the second Monday of that month.
To maintain active status, we expect members to respond to at least two missions a year. Those missions often come at the most inopportune times -- a rainy Sunday evening is pretty typical.
New member orientation (Search and Rescue Academy) is usually held in July and November each year and is required for all new members. The academy is a one weekend commitment (Saturday/Sunday) that will introduce you to Snohomish County's Search and Rescue techniques and protocols. Further EMRU training is highly recommended and encouraged.
In addition to the above requirements, prospective candidates have to be able to pass a background check by the Snohomish County Sherriff's Office.
Please fill out our new membership application completely and email it to Membership@everettmountainrescue.org. An Everett Mountain Rescue member will contact you to follow up with your decision to become a member of our team. A signed copy of the application must be completed and handed in at your 3rd meeting attendance. If you do not have Adobe Reader, you can down load it for free here.
Also, please register on this website by clicking Register in the upper right area of the home page, and then email Membership@everettmountainrescue.org.
